Tips for getting the most out of your monitoring portal
- Bookmark and save your login. The first time you actually need monitoring data is usually when something is wrong; that's a bad time to also be hunting for the URL.
- Verify your installer set up consumption monitoring. Production-only monitoring tells you what the panels generate; consumption monitoring (with current transformers on the main panel) tells you what your house uses, which is usually the more interesting number. Some installers skip the CTs to save 30 minutes of install time.
- Check year-1 production against the proposal. Most monitoring platforms let you export the year's kWh. Compare to the projected kWh in your bid — if production is more than 10% short of the projection at year 1, that's a warranty conversation, not a wait-and-see.
- Watch for module-level under-production. Microinverter and optimizer systems show per-module data. A single low module is usually a panel-level fault, partial shading, or soiling. String inverter systems hide this — you'll only see total production.
- Set production alerts. Most platforms let you set notification thresholds (e.g., alert if no production reported for 48 hours, or if year-over-year drops more than X%). Configure these even if you don't plan to check the dashboard daily.
- Confirm warranty registration. Some manufacturer warranties require the system to be registered through the monitoring portal for full coverage. Verify with your installer that they completed registration after commissioning.
Got a bid? Compare monitoring transparency across proposals.
Upload up to four solar proposals — the analyzer flags monitoring scope (production-only vs. consumption monitoring vs. battery telemetry), missing CTs, and proprietary platforms with limited owner access.

Why are there so many platforms?
Each major inverter manufacturer builds its own. Some use white-label backbones (Solarman powers Deye / Sunsynk and several others). For a typical residential system you'll only deal with one platform — the inverter manufacturer's. Mixed-vendor commercial sites use aggregators like AlsoEnergy or Locus.
Do I need the mobile app or is the web portal enough?
Both work. Apps are better for daily glance-checks; web portals are better for serious data export and year-over-year analysis. Most platforms offer both with the same login.
What if I lose access to the monitoring portal?
Contact the inverter manufacturer's support directly — they can re-issue credentials and verify ownership against the system serial number. With dealer-mediated logins, you may need to escalate past the original installer.
Can I switch monitoring platforms?
Within an inverter brand, no — the platform is tied to the hardware. Across inverter brands, you can use a third-party aggregator (AlsoEnergy, Locus, Solar-Log) that pulls from multiple OEMs into one dashboard. Common in commercial portfolios.
Are these platforms free?
For residential system owners, yes — they're included with the equipment. Commercial monitoring aggregators (AlsoEnergy, Power Factors, Locus) are paid services typically borne by the asset owner / O&M provider.
